Ethel G. Maevers, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at the Lutheran Home. She was born Oct. 28, 1920, in Cape Girardeau, to Joseph C. and Thekla Schwab Maevers. She first married Lester Hengst Oct. 19, 1940. He preceded her in December 1959. She then married Marvin Proffer on Dec. 28, 1962. He preceded her in death March 27, 1981. She and Earl Maevers were married on June 4, 1984. He preceded her in death July 3, 2002...

Ethel G. Maevers, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born Oct. 28, 1920, in Cape Girardeau, to Joseph C. and Thekla Schwab Maevers. She first married Lester Hengst Oct. 19, 1940. He preceded her in December 1959. She then married Marvin Proffer on Dec. 28, 1962. He preceded her in death March 27, 1981. She and Earl Maevers were married on June 4, 1984. He preceded her in death July 3, 2002.

Maevers was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Egypt Mills. She had worked at International Shoe Co. many years and also at Child's IGA. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary 3838 and a lifetime resident of Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include a son, Jackie Hengst of Cape Girardeau; three stepsons, Marvin Maevers of Lancaster, Calif., Kenneth Maevers of Cape Girardeau, Marvin Proffer of Oakville, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Lois Maevers of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Walter Maevers of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Evelyn Lange of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous great-stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; a daughter, Judith McDowell in 2008; and a brother, Oliver Maevers.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills, with the Rev. Kevin Olson officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Egypt Mills.

Memorial contributions may be given to Saxony Lutheran High School or Trinity Lutheran Church at Egypt Mills Building Fund.
