Venus Lorene Petitt, 87, of Scott City died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at her home.

She was born May 14, 1923, in Thebes, Ill., to Clyde Franklin and Ida Mosher Dunn. She married Thomas Alvin "Bill" Petitt April 4, 1940, in Thebes. He preceded her in death Aug. 10, 1987.

Survivors include six sons, Tom (Odessa) Petitt of Carbondale, Ill., Rick (Beverly) Petitt of Springfield, Mo., Jerry (Shirley) Petitt, Bill Petitt, Mike (Becky) Petitt, all of Scott City, David (Kelley) Petitt of Chaffee, Mo.; five daughters, Myrime Morrill, Alvina Compass, Shirley (Tom) Gaither and Lorene Petitt, all of Scott City, Joyce (Jerry) Blattel of Gordonville; two sisters, Edna (Sonny) Keesee and Sylvia Caldwell of Cape Girardeau; 32 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pauline Crader; six brothers; a sister; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City, and from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at Eisleben Lutheran Church in Scott City.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Rick Foss officiating. Burial will be in Eisleben Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, St. Louis Affiliate, 9288 Dielman Industrial Drive, St. Louis, MO 63132.
