PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- William M. "Bill" Abbott, 83, of Perryville died Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Crystal City, Mo. He was born Feb. 6, 1928, in Cape Girardeau, son of Harry H. and Elsdena Sherer Abbott. He and Mildred Myer were married Nov. 4, 1950. She preceded him in death May 22, 2007...

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- William M. "Bill" Abbott, 83, of Perryville died Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Crystal City, Mo.

He was born Feb. 6, 1928, in Cape Girardeau, son of Harry H. and Elsdena Sherer Abbott. He and Mildred Myer were married Nov. 4, 1950. She preceded him in death May 22, 2007.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Theresa (Weldon) Valleroy of Perryville; three sons, Harry Lee (Jackie) Abbott of Oak Ridge, Larry Matthew (Helen) Abbott of Perryville, Richard (Connie) Kirn of Mesa, Ariz.; nine grandchildren, Tara Shah, Aaron Valleroy, Chris Abbott, Dylan Abbott, Christy Bockman, Lisa Abbott, Matthew Abbott, Bart Kirn, Michael Kirn; four great-grandchildren, Lauren, Khalin, Jaiden and Madison Shah.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Terence "Terry"; three brothers, Benjamin H., Robert J., and Paul J. Abbott.

Abbott had worked at Southwestern Bell. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, American Legion, VFW and Knights of Columbus 1st Degree.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and 6:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Young and Sons Funeral Home. A Catholic wake will be held at 7 Friday.

Funeral Mass will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Vincent's Church, with the Rev. Milton Ryan officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, with military graveside rites provided by the VFW and Navy Honors Team.

Memorials are preferred to St. Vincent Endowment Fund or American Heart Association.
