POLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Poplar Bluff will host its first-ever Chick-fil-A Leadercast on Friday, May 6, inviting Southeast Missouri businesspeople to hear nationally-known speakers via simulcast from Atlanta.

"We all get stuck in day-to-day ruts, no matter what kind of business we're in," says Christy Frazier, marketing director for Southern Bank in Poplar Bluff. "These people aspire to do great things in life, and they all have great attitudes. I think we can learn tips and trends to continue to remain positive in what is sometimes a bleak market."

Frazier heard about the annual leadercast after she helped open a Southern Bank branch in Jonesboro, Ark., last year. She ate frequently at Chick-fil-A and was so impressed by the fast- food chain's customer service that she began researching the company.

"In the restaurant business, it's not easy to put a smile on your face and not appear to be fake," says Frazier. "At Chick-fil-A they genuinely want you to have the best experience, even in the drive-thru. I wanted to mimic that philosophy in all of our branches."

After Frazier read about the leadercast, she approached Steve Halter, president of the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce, about bringing the event to Poplar Bluff.

"It is a big deal because people get a chance to hear quality speakers via simulcast right here in Poplar Bluff, without having to incur travel costs, time away from the office and hotel expenses," says Halter. "It is a great value, great speakers and another opportunity to network with other business leaders."

The live event in Atlanta sold out last year, with more than 2,000 guests in attendance. More than 70,000 worldwide saw the simulcast.

Some of this year's speakers include Dave Ramsey, money management expert, radio personality and author of "The Total Money Makeover"; Seth Godin, entrepreneur, marketing expert and author of 12 books, including "Linchpin"; John Maxwell, leadership expert and author of "The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership"; Mark Brown, head coach of the Texas Longhorns; Robin Roberts, anchor of ABC's "Good Morning America"; and Muhtar Kent, CEO of The Coca-Cola Co. Topics will cover influence, hope, service, purpose and innovation, says Halter.

The local simulcast is set for 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 6, at the Kay Porter Theater at Poplar Bluff Senior High School, 1300 Victory Lane. Tickets are $50 for Poplar Bluff chamber members and $100 for nonmembers who register by April 15. The price includes breakfast and lunch, and seating is limited to 200.
