CHAFFEE, Mo. -- George A. Eftink, 90, of Chaffee died Thursday, March 31, 2011, at his home.

He was born Feb. 7, 1921, in Portageville, Mo., son of John and Elizabeth Elfrink Eftink. He and Teresa Catherine Horrell were married April 8, 1947. She died March 19, 2011.

George was a self-employed farmer. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, St. Ambrose Men's Club, past member of St. Ambrose Cemetery Committee, St. Ambrose Parish Council, Scott County Farm Bureau and University of Missouri Extension Board in Scott County.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Asian Pacific Campaign.

Survivors include four sons, Leon (Mary Jane) Eftink of Cape Girardeau, Carl (Sheila) Eftink of Sikeston, Mo., Martin (Jeanette) Eftink of Chaffee, Ivan (Terri) Eftink of Willard, Mo.; three daughters, Helen (Joseph) Sander of Sikeston, Rose (Harold) Horrell of Marble Hill, Mo., Mary (Denson) Boner of Chaffee; a brother, Andrew Eftink of Portageville; a sister, Emma Gaines of Oran, Mo.; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and expecting three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a granddaughter, Sheila Elizabeth Eftink; two brothers, Henry and Paul Eftink; and two sisters, Mary Klipfel and Jane Priggel.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, with the rosary at 8.

Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, with Monsignor Edward Eftink, the Revs. Glenn Eftink, Randy Tochtrop, Ralph Duffner, Mike McDevitt and Normand Varone officiating. Burial will be in St. Ambrose Cemetery with full military rites by Missouri Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church or World War II Honors Tour.
