A storm that hit Cape Girardeau Sunday night left damaged trees on the south side of the city.

Crews were working early Monday to repair the damage, which included snapped tree branches, caused by high winds. Several homes lost power during the storm. About 53 Ameren customers were without power at 5 p.m. Monday.

Richard Knaup, Cape Girardeau County emergency management director, said no other storm damage was reported in the county.

After a heavy storm system moved through Cape Girardeau around 4 p.m. Monday, the National Weather Service out of Paducah, Ky., reported trees down from New Wells, Mo., to the Perry County line. Three to four barns also had roofs blown off, due to high winds, according to the weather service's storm reports.
