Nancy Hunter NSDAR

The Nancy Hunter Chapter NSDAR met May 25 at the Cape Girardeau Country Club for the end-of-the-year luncheon, with Edna Ruth Fischer serving as the hostess.

Dorothy Points gave the opening prayer and regent Sheila Holloway led the group in the rituals. There were two prospective members, Carol Cannon and Nancy Foster, in attendance. Lorilee Short, MSSDAR Southeast District Director, was also a guest.

The two newest members, Julia Understall and Jackie Lowes, were recognized with a patriot reading and given DAR pins.

Charlotte Slinkard gave a report on the chapter's participation by having refreshments and fellowship with the Historic Preservation Commission of Cape Girardeau, after the walking tour directed by Dr. Frank Nickell on May 18. The group unveiled a National Register of Historic Places plaque for the Common Pleas Courthouse followed by refreshments in the gazebo. Members participating were Ruth Lang, LaFern Stiver, Shelia Holloway, Catherine Allison, Lowes and Slinkard.

Points brought a book of old medals dedicated to the women who served in the Revolutionary War. She also has a 1929 plaque that was dedicated to the local known Revolutionary military who were from Cape Girardeau. The plaque had originally been placed in the Old United States Post Office when located on Broadway, then had been in the federal courthouse on Broadway but now the group is trying to find a good place for it.

The next meeting will be Sept. 28 at Cape Girardeau Public Library in the Penzel Conference Room.

Kage FCE Club

Verna Downen was hostess when the Kage FCE met at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center for their regular monthly meeting. President Dortha Strack presided.

Dortha's Tip of the Day: Substitute four teaspoons tapioca or two tablespoons flour for one tablespoon cornstarch.

A workshop was held for the County Project, "Blankets for Autism." Six Kage members worked on the project. There were 13 blankets, seven snakes, and seven lap pads completed. Another workshop will be held in June.

The service project for May was a contribution of Golden Books for the Cape County Health Center and Books for Newborns at Saint Francis Medical Center.

The June project will be Dortha's Clover Kids Camp.

A report on the Spring District meeting held in Sedgewickville was presented by Inez Statler.

Several club members went to Clippard Elementary School and Jefferson Elementary School to present and play "Show Me Justice," a game about Missouri, with the students. This is a game reproduced by Shirley Palen and Judie Herbst and will be distributed to fourth grade classes in Cape Girardeau. This was done with grants from the FCE Foundation and Heed. The games will be completed and distributed to the other schools during the next school year.

Palen presented certificates to club members that sent at least 50 cards for our Military Mail Project for 2010. Also, there are certificates for the schools and clubs that participated with on this project. The club deadline for cards for 2011 is Oct. 21.

The program for the day, "huck toweling," was presented by Palen.

Jo Daume will be hostess for the next meeting at 9:30 a.m. on June 9 at the Cape Girardeau County Park South. This will be a breakfast meeting.

John Guild Chapter NSDAR

The John Guild Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution met May 18 at the Jackson City Library. Reports were given on the recent Missouri State Society Daughters of the American Revolution State Conference held in Columbia, Mo., April 28 through May 1.

The following members were recognized at the meeting. Vice regent Pamela Johnson presented sisters, Marjorie Swan and Shirley Young, certificates for their 25 years of service to the society. Regent Shirley Young presented Linda Hutson with a certificate from the State Chairman of Service for Veterans and Beth Biri a certificate as the Outstanding Junior representing the John Guild Chapter.

The program "find a grave" was presented by Nancy Wilson.

Swan and Johnson served as hostesses.

The next meeting will be a luncheon meeting on June 15 at the home of Lou Ann Zoffuto. State regent Donna Green Nash will be the guest speaker.
