Dorothy L. Walker, 83, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at Monticello House in Jackson, where she had resided since Oct. 1, 2006.

She was born March 18, 1928, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Bennie and Georgia Rhodes Green. She was formerly married to Homer Walker.

Dorothy was a 1946 graduate of Woodland High School in Marble Hill, Mo. She worked as a secretary in the emergency room at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau 27 years, retiring in 1995. She lived in Burfordville 45 years prior to entering the nursing home. She was a member of Burfordville Baptist Church, and was an avid Cardinals fan.

Loving survivors include two sons, Barry (Michelle) Walker of Scott City, Kevin (Sandy) Walker of Marble Hill; a daughter, Susie (Robert) Upchurch of Marble Hill; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Green.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Fred Ritter officiating. Interment will be in Stroderville Cemetery near Whitewater.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
