A Cape Girardeau woman who allegedly kicked a city police officer Monday is now facing felony charges.

Cape Girardeau police officers encountered Stephanie N. Cerny, 31, around 10:30 p.m., when they responded to the 400 block of Washington Avenue in reference to a fight in progress. Cerny and another woman were fighting, according to Cape Girardeau Police Department spokesman Darin Hickey, and when officers attempted to detain Cerny she became combative. Hickey said she kicked one of the officers in the chest and in the groin.

She's charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer. The officer, Hickey said, did not receive major injuries.

Cerny is in custody on a $10,000 cash-only bond.
