I saw in the paper and on the TV news that Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder is talking about seeing that the veterans homes in Missouri are well-staffed. I hope he's including the home here in Cape Girardeau. I have several friends working there and visit there quite often, and people there are working four and five days, 12 and 16 hours straight. Do you call that a well-staffed home?...

Reduce spending

AMERICANS have realized for several years that they need to pay down their debt, reduce their credit card bills, cut back on their spending a little bit, not buy as many new cars or as many new houses, and be careful so that they can reduce the debt. Now the government should reduce its debt and the only way to do that is to bring in my money that they spend. Government is in a position when it requires more taxes, those taxes actually hurt people and reduce economic activity. So it's in the government's best interest to reduce spending.

Unemployment benefits

TO the person who said that the benefits are too good for the unemployed, I don't agree with that all. Unemployment is not that great of a thing to be on. It's about $185 a week, which equals to about $700 a month. So if you can live on $700 a month and live the cushy life, then have at it.

Social Security

RONALD Reagan did not dip into Social Security. Jimmy Carter is the one who started that, and we should have never let him get away with it. Actually, that is what hurt his chance at getting re-elected, thank goodness. Let's hope the same thing happens to Obama.

Farmers work hard

TO all of those people complaining about farmers getting funding from the government or getting stuck behind their equipment on the road: Try spending a few days naked and hungry and then see what you think of them. They work hard to supply people with the things they need. So think twice about it before you angrily pass them on the road or complain about them. Try waving instead.

Congressional votes

PUBLISHING congressional votes is misleading. In fact, it's counterproductive. For example, you recently published the congressional votes, one of which showed members of the Republican Party voted for a consumer financial protection safety bill. The average person would look at the vote and think the Republicans are all for protecting consumers, likely not knowing that before voting for the bill they had collectively voted to gut it.
