Jaycee Golf Course

TO the caller who complained about the Jaycee Golf Course being dangerous, you played it one time in two years. I don't think you even deserve consideration to be able to complain. I have played more than 100 courses in about 150 miles of Cape Girardeau, and I have never played on a course that you couldn't be hit by a stray ball. True, there are a few places where it's a little close, but if you play by the rules and hit in your fairway, it's not that bad. Right now changes are being considered that will help this problem of being close.

Garage sale manners

I was always taught that when you want to sell something at a yard sale or garage sale that you should be as nice as possible to the customer. Well, apparently this lady doesn't understand that and apparently she doesn't realize that. But you know, I hate to tell her, the only thing she's going to get out of being rude is no customers. Nobody is going to want to buy anything from her.

Bipartisanship?

BIPARTISAN compromise means the Democrats get 99 percent of what they want and Republicans get 1 percent of what they want.

Important levee

THE only mistake the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers made in activating the Birds Point levee was in waiting too long. This caused unnecessary flooding in neighboring states. Folks, global climate change is real and it is happening now. These drainage ditches we call the Missouri, Ohio and Mississippi Rivers breech or top their levees on a regular basis. Five-hundred-year flood levels are occurring every 20 years or so. Building the levees higher only compounds the disaster when the levee is breached. Keep the Birds Point floodplain a levee relief area.

Wearing red

THIS is to the comment in Speak Out "Wearing red." Not everybody that wears red is aggressive. When I was a little child, I was a shy child and I kept to myself, and red was one of my favorite colors. Red is still one of my favorite colors, and so is yellow and so is orange. Not everybody sees red as being aggressive.

Jetton coverage

I don't appreciate you having Rod Jetton smeared all over the newspaper. I got enough of him with the scandal. I didn't buy this newspaper to read about Rod Jetton.

Furlough benefit

WOULD it help the national debt if every federal employee in the United States took one day off without pay? After all, the employer, the U.S., is in financial difficulty. How much money would that save, can someone tell us?

Who's our lender?

FROM whom are we borrowing the money after we've raised the debt ceiling to allow more borrowing?
