CAIRO, Ill. -- A Cairo man is set to be sentenced at 2 p.m. today by Judge Mark Clarke for his role in a fatal 2010 shooting outside a nightclub. Melvin Hadley, 28, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter last month, was originally scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 5, but that date was changed to today, according to the Alexander County, Ill., circuit clerk's office. Hadley faces up to five years in prison for shooting Jeserick Pilgram of Mounds, Ill., in the early morning hours of July 1, 2010, outside Mary J's Lounge. Hadley was originally charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, but those charges were reduced with his July 8 plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter.
