Jackson volleyball team claims SEMO Spike silver bracket title; St. Vincent wins gold consolation

The top team from all 16 pools at the SEMO Spike tournament advanced to the gold bracket Saturday at the Show Me Center.

Lesterville defeated St. Vincent 25-17, 19-25, 25-13, while Scott City defeated Advance 25-8, 25-20. Perryville beat Leopold 25-18, 25-10, while Notre Dame beat Bernie 25-22, 25-23 to complete the first round.

Scott City defeated Perryville 25-20, 25-20 to advance to face Notre Dame, which defeated Bismarck 25-15, 25-19 in the quarterfinals.

Scott City beat Notre Dame for the second time this week in the championship semifinals. Scott City won 25-21, 21-25, 25-16 on Saturday after defeating the Bulldogs in three games on its home floor Wednesday.

The Rams captured the gold bracket championship by beating Eminence 16-25, 30-28, 25-13.

On the consolation side, St. Vincent beat Lebanon 25-23, 25-21, while Leopold defeated Advance 14-25, 25-13, 25-22.

St. Vincent was a 30-28, 25-19 winner over New Haven in the consolation semifinal, while Leopold lost to Bernie 25-22, 25-22 in the other semifinal.

St. Vincent then beat Bernie 25-19, 25-17 to win the gold bracket consolation title.

Silver bracket

Jackson won the silver bracket, made of up teams that finished second in their respective pools, by beating Meadow Heights in three games.

Meadow Heights took the first game 25-21, then Jackson won the next two 25-11, 25-14.

Bell City lost 25-21, 25-18 to Clearwater in first-round play.

Jasmine Johnson had 15 kills and 16 digs for Bell City. Trisha Slagley had seven assists and Sierra Bradshaw added four assists in the loss.

Jackson defeated Saxony Lutheran 31-29, 25-21 in other first-round action, while Central defeated Twin Rivers 25-17, 25-18.

Jordan Hoff recorded eight kills and 13 digs, while Courtney Bergman had five kills, three blocks and six digs for Saxony Lutheran.

Woodland was a winner over St. Elizabeth 25-21, 25-22, and Meadow Heights defeated Gideon 25-12, 25-19.

Jackson defeated Clearwater 25-13, 25-20, and Meadow Heights took out Woodland 25-10, 25-12 in the quarterfinals.

Jackson beat Kennett 25-17, 25-12 to reach the championship match, while Meadow Heights beat Puxico 25-14, 25-15.

Bell City beat Saxony Lutheran 25-7, 25-11 in the consolation quarterfinals.

Johnson had 15 kills and six digs, while Slagley added 19 assists and 17 digs for Bell City. Bradshaw added eight assists and three digs.

Kristy Winter finished with nine digs, and Rachael Petzold had seven digs for the Crusaders.

Bell City lost to Park Hills 27-25, 25-20 in the consolation semifinals.

Johnson had 15 kills, 12 digs and two blocks, while Slagley had 14 assists and 11 digs.

Colleen Maddox added six digs and four kills in the loss.

Bronze bracket

Zalma advanced to the second round with a 25-18, 18-25, 25-21 victory over Oak Ridge before being eliminated by Cooter 25-15, 25-19.

Oran fell to Holcomb 25-17, 25-23 in the first round.

The bronze bracket, which is made of up teams that place third in their pool, does not include consolation play.
