Robert L. Brandel Sr., 82, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of St. Louis, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center. He was born Dec. 9, 1928, in Hutchinson, Kan., son of William A. and Sadie Bruckerhoff Brandel. He and Carol Emmendorfer were married in August 1952. She preceded him in death Aug. 26, 2001...

Robert L. Brandel Sr., 82, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of St. Louis, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 9, 1928, in Hutchinson, Kan., son of William A. and Sadie Bruckerhoff Brandel. He and Carol Emmendorfer were married in August 1952. She preceded him in death Aug. 26, 2001.

Mr. Brandel was an auto mechanic with Union Electric 33 years. He was of the Catholic faith and a member of Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church 50 years and a former scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 816, both in Spanish Lake, Mo.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict, and served with the Army National Guard six years in Perryville, Mo.

Survivors include two sons, Robert (Cindy) Brandel Jr. of Fredericksburg, Va., William (Susan) Brandel of Troy, Mo.; a daughter, Theresa Brandel of New Mexico; a brother, Pat (Leona) Brandel of Perryville; a sister, Delores (Jim) Engemann of High Ridge, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Young and Sons Funeral Home. The parish wake is at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Milton Ryan officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.

Memorials are preferred to Boy Scouts of America.
