All the local high school events reported Tuesday to the Southeast Missourian.

The Notre Dame softball team suffered its first loss of the season when visiting Festus scored two runs in the 10th inning for a 4-2 victory Tuesday.

The Bulldogs ended their regular season at 24-1.

Katie Bond took her first loss this season after 22 consecutive victories.

The teams were tied 1-1 after seven innings, and both squads scored a run in the ninth. Savanna Ayers led off the Notre Dame ninth with a single and later scored on an illegal pitch. She had advanced to third on a passed ball and a ground out.

Winning pitcher Molly Carter delivered a two-out, two-run single with the bases loaded in the top of the 10th. Notre Dame loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the inning, but Carter struck out the next two batters before inducing a game-ending ground out.

"It's never good to get a loss," Notre Dame coach Jeff Graviett said. "But we saw a very good pitcher and a very good team, and we had some pressure put on us going into the postseason. That part of it was good."

Ayers finished with two of the Bulldogs' five hits.

Notre Dame begins Class 3 District 1 play Thursday when it faces the Fredericktown vs. North County winner in a 4 p.m. semifinal.
