False alarm leads to brief SEMO dorm evacuation

A dormitory at Southeast Missouri State University was evacuated briefly early Thursday afternoon when a smell of natural gas was reported.

Students waited outside while the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, campus public safety officers and a representative from Ameren Missouri checked the building. No leak was found and students were allowed to return to the building after about 10 minutes, according to the campus department of public safety.
