A 54-year-old man who was arrested Wednesday afternoon on charges of indecent exposure and disturbing the peace was in violation of probation for a previous charge of indecent exposure, police said.

Charles Joseph Tauser, 316 Lorimier St., Apt. 11, was intoxicated, urinating in public and shouting on the 300 block of South Lorimier Street when police arrested him at 3:55 p.m., authorities said. After the arrest, police found out Tauser had an outstanding Cape Girardeau city warrant.

Police records show Tauser was also arrested in July on a Cape Girardeau County warrant for failure to appear in court.

Cape Girardeau Police Department spokesman Darin Hickey could not give details about the original charge.

"It is not uncommon for people not to know they have a probation violation," Hickey said. People are often informed they are in violation by police officers when they are stopped for another offense.
