ST. PETERS, Mo. -- Marvin C. Swanson, St. Peters, Mo., 76, died at 10:40 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, following a long illness. He leaves his three children, Eric, Kirsten and Karen; five grandchildren, Erica, Elisa and Carl Swanson, and Garrick and Gabrielle Kourany. ST. PETERS, Mo. -- Marvin C. Swanson, St. Peters, Mo., 76, died at 10:40 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, following a long illness.

He leaves his three children, Eric, Kirsten and Karen; five grandchildren, Erica, Elisa and Carl Swanson, and Garrick and Gabrielle Kourany. Also, he leaves his brother, Paul of Rockford, Ill; sister, Charma Pascarelli of Park Forest, Ill.; and brother, Charles of Kingsport, Tenn.

Born in Chicago Heights, Ill., to Olive and John Peter Swanson, Marvin graduated from Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights and furthered his education at Simpson College and Boston University.

Marvin spent most of his career in higher education at DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind. and Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau. An active community leader, Marvin devoted countless hours as a Rotary Club member and socialite.

In 1992 Marvin retired from higher education and formed his own foundation, Cultural Exchange Network.

In retirement, Marvin, an excellent carpenter, committed full time to his woodworking hobby.

The family is being served by The Baue Funeral and Memorial Center, 3950 West Clay Street, St. Charles, Mo. where visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. A burial service will be held Saturday at Cedar Park Cemetery, Calumet Park, Ill.
