Sikeston police receive new radar unit

SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Southeast Coalition for Roadway Safety has awarded a new radar unit to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

The unit, valued at $2,700, has been added to a patrol car to aid in enforcement of speed limits.

"The city of Sikeston is extremely pleased with the new radar gun," said Sikeston Department of Public Safety Lt. William Mygatt. "The unit has been placed in a front-line patrol car and is being used on a daily basis."

Mygatt commended the Southeast Coalition for assisting the department with its ongoing traffic enforcement programs. He said the department is tracking usage of the device and is assigned to officers for traffic enforcement.

The department was one of eight law enforcement agencies in the southeast region receiving radar units this year. Other agencies were the police departments of Houston, Piedmont, Puxico, Thayer, West Plains and Willow Springs; and the Perry County Sheriff Department.
