Fire torched half of a Jackson home and a vehicle in its driveway Saturday night.

Around 10 p.m. a family living in a home in the 1400 block of Oak Street had noticed their basement garage smoke detector going off. When one of the family members went to investigate, he found fire ravaging the garage, acting fire captain Ryan Davie said.

When firefighters arrived, the fire had engulfed the home's living room, which was directly above the garage, and a vehicle near the garage, Davie said. Firefighters had the fire contained within 30 minutes and left the scene around midnight.
