Police in Poplar Bluff warn of 2 scams

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (AP) - Police in Poplar Bluff are warning residents about two scams in the Southeast Missouri town.

Authorities say several residents have received calls from scammers claiming that people can be arrested and sent to jail if they don't settle bad debts. The scammers insist that victims send money to settle debts. Police note that you cannot be arrested for a bad debt.

In the other scam, residents are being called and told they have won a contest, but they must send cash to claim the prize. Police say no such contest exists.
