Charles Lough Jr.

Charles M. "Bud" Lough Jr., 95, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born Oct. 8, 1916, in Charleston, Mo., to Charles M. and Grace Gant Lough Sr. He and Margaret Ellen Brown were married Nov. 21, 1945, at Charleston.

Charles was a staff sergeant in the Marine Corps during World War II, serving in the South Pacific, Guadalcanal, Eniwetok and Samoa.

He farmed all his life and worked with county Extension agents developing the ability to produce 100-plus bushels of corn per acre in Scott and Mississippi counties in the early 1950s. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge, both in Commerce, Mo.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ellen Lough of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Steve and wife Donna Lough of Marble Hill, Mo., Gregory Lough and Ellen Cornelius of Houston; a daughter, Luanne and husband Ed Kiefner of Patton, Mo.; a brother, George William Lough; a sister, Gusta Wagner; five grandchildren, Melissa Lough, Barry Urhahn, Leigh Vosseller, Michael Lough, Jennifer Fridgen; nine great-grandchildren, Madeline Urhahn, Grace Urhahn, Mikayla Vosseller, Hayden Vosseller, Madison Lough, Brook LeGrand, Hannah Fridgen, Grayson Fridgen and Lillian Fridgen.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Aburn Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Bruce Owens officiating. Private burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery in Commerce at a later date.
