With nearly 20 years of law enforcement experience, including two terms as sheriff, Mark Dobbs again is asking the citizens of Butler County to vote him back into office one more time.

Dobbs filed Friday for sheriff in the upcoming Republican primary. He is seeking a third four-year term and will be challenged in the primary by Ed Strenfel, who is the county's presiding commissioner.

Strenfel, who was first elected in 2006 and re-elected in 2010, will have to resign as presiding commissioner if he is elected sheriff.

If re-elected, Dobbs said, his goal is to see the Butler County Justice Center paid off in 2013 and the number of road officers expanded. Butler County currently has 11 road officers.

A graduate of the Southeast Missouri State Law Enforcement Training Academy, Dobbs was commissioned as a deputy sheriff in 1993 and later served as a shift supervisor and canine officer.
