Alan W. Langston, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 24, 1932, in Cape Girardeau, to Albert G. and Bertha M. "Lipps" Langston. He and Ruth Ellen Sprengel were married June 14, 1958, in Hernando, Miss.

Mr. Langston was an operator at Spartech Plastics more than 25 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ellen Langston; a son, Stephen (Paula) Langston; a daughter, Gloria "Jeanie" Kies, all of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Elaine (Al) Northern of Benton, Mo.; four grandchildren, Courtney Michelle McLain, Ashli DeSha Langston, Stephen Brandon Langston and Wesley Paul Langston; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a sister, and a son-in-law, Michael B. Kies.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel, with parish prayers at 7 p.m.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Hulshof officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2001 Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131.
