L.J. Carron of Jackson has filed with County Clerk Rusby Crites as a candidate for the Democratic nomination for state representative in the Aug. 7 primary election; Carron is a grain inspector with the Missouri Department of Agriculture.

The hustling State College Indians will make their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA college-divisional final basketball tournament at Evansville, Ind., on Thursday, when coach Charles Parsley's team will take on Nebraska Wesleyan; the locals routed Arkansas State 76-64 Saturday at Jonesboro, Ark., to win the Southwest Regional.

75 years ago: March 12, 1937

Two new tennis nets, to replace nets burned in the Community Clubhouse fire at Fairground Park, are put into use there; City Commissioner L.H. Butler has had all the debris from the building cleared away and plans to have the entire park given a spring lawn cleaning; the two furnaces from the burned building were salvaged, and the commissioner plans to sell them.

The board of directors of Kage School District, west of Cape Girardeau, has tentatively decided to drop for at least a year a proposal to build a new school building.

100 years ago: March 12, 1912

D.A. Glenn, the pioneer clothing and dry goods merchant, has sold his clothing and gents' furnishings department to the Caldwell-Sherman Co.

The race for seats on the Cape Girardeau City Council is heating up; several men have filed or intend to file nominating petitions: Joe T. Wilson, C.P. VanAmberg, W.H. Coerver, Martin Krueger, Joe Haas, Mat Morrison and Thomas Gill.
