Man gets 30 years for sodomy
NEW MADRID, Mo. -- A man charged with sodomizing a child will spend the next 30 years in prison. Jonathan T. Ervin, whose address is listed as Benton in online court records, was sentenced Tuesday by Judge Fred Copeland. Ervin was found guilty of statutory sodomy following a jury trial Jan. 26 and 27. Jonathan T. Ervin, whose address is listed as Benton in online court records, was sentenced Tuesday by Judge Fred Copeland.
Ervin was found guilty of statutory sodomy following a jury trial Jan. 26 and 27. The jury deliberated about 45 minutes before returning the guilty verdict.
Because Ervin had waived the right for a jury to assess the punishment, it was handed down by Copeland.

According to the original charges, Ervin had deviate sexual intercourse with a child younger than 2.
