NEW MADRID, Mo. -- A man was wanted for a Tuesday shooting in New Madrid has been arrested in Texas.

New Madrid police chief Claude McFerren said the man, whose name is not being released, is being held in Allen, Texas, on a $50,000 cash bond pending his extradition to Missouri.

A search began for the alleged assailant shortly after a shooting was reported about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on Blades Drive in New Madrid. Information obtained by officers led them to contact law enforcement in Texas.

According to officer Ruben White, two men were arguing when "the argument got a little heated and one male pulled a gun and fired a shot at another male."

The victim was shot in the lower left leg. He was treated at a hospital and released, White said.
