A small group gathered Friday in Cape Girardeau to protest conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh's continued presence on the airwaves. The group gathered to speak out against recent remarks Limbaugh made about a college student over her stance on insurance for contraceptives, and his selection for the Hall of Famous Missourians.

Dee Garrison of Doniphan, Mo., organized the protest, which was held in front of a portrait of Limbaugh on the downtown floodwall. The portrait is one of many of famous Missourians on the wall. Garrison and 11 others held signs that read "Hush Rush, Clear the Airwaves," and also referred to House Speaker Steven Tilley of Perryville. Tilley selected Limbaugh, a Cape Girardeau native, for inclusion in the hall.

Participants came from Cape Girardeau, Chaffee and Poplar Bluff.

House Democrats proposed formal criteria and a requirement for bipartisan approval of those suggested for the state hall of fame this week.
