Doretta M. Uelsmann Dunning, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, March 15, 2012, at the Lutheran Home. She was born Oct. 8, 1921, in Benton, Mo., to Gustav and Caroline Westrich Sprenger. She married Floyd E. Uelsmann on June 21, 1941, at Eisleben Lutheran parsonage in Scott City. He preceded her in death Jan. 1, 1972. She then married Arthur Dunning on Nov. 17, 1973. He preceded her in death May 20, 1986...

Doretta M. Uelsmann Dunning, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, March 15, 2012, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born Oct. 8, 1921, in Benton, Mo., to Gustav and Caroline Westrich Sprenger. She married Floyd E. Uelsmann on June 21, 1941, at Eisleben Lutheran parsonage in Scott City. He preceded her in death Jan. 1, 1972. She then married Arthur Dunning on Nov. 17, 1973. He preceded her in death May 20, 1986.

She was baptized Oct. 23, 1921, at Benton, and confirmed May 26, 1935, at Eisleben Church. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

Doretta was a child care provider in her home many years, worked at old Saint Francis Hospital and at a local restaurant. She also volunteered at the Salvation Army.

Survivors include two daughters, Deloris M. Uelsmann Neace of Jackson, Sharon R. Uelsmann Smith of Scott City; a son, Melvin E. (Loretta) Uelsmann of Jackson; five grandchildren, Edward Neace, Vicki Kinder, Jeremy Smith, Clint Uelsmann and Kristina Stout; six great-grandchildren, Dane Neace, Breanna Kinder, Landon Kinder, Tanner, Devon and Addison Stout; a sister, Dorothy Wright of Scott City; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; a brother, Alfred Sprenger; and a son-in-law, Charles Neace.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, and 9 a.m. to service time Monday at Eisleben Church.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Loren Boettcher of Trinity Lutheran Church of Cape Girardeau officiating. Interment will be in Eisleben Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to either Trinity or Eisleben Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
