DR. Wayne Bowen's saber-rattling diatribe (attack Syria first and then Iran) was surely satire, in the great tradition of the movie classic "Dr. Strangelove."

Ford book

I promise that you'll devour "Dreamers," a book written by Jerry Ford and published by Southeast Missouri State University Press. The book tells the tale of many famous musicians from Cape Girardeau and the surrounding area, from Ford's jazz band, through the rise of rockabilly via Narvel Felts, Lou Hobbs, the chart busting "I Can Help" by Billy Swan, Neal E. Boyd and many others who helped make Southeast Missouri a Mecca of the music world.

First Amendment

I am a practicing Catholic, and I see everything wrong with this mandate. A true practicing Catholic follows the magisterium, not their own everyday political whims. This mandate is not just a Catholic issue, not even just a Christian issue; it is an issue for those people who have consciences. Employers and insurers who have morals that "free contraception" violates should have the right to refuse coverage. There are other jobs and more insurers; if you have a problem, then you have options. If you enforce this mandate, we don't. Is that fair or is that violation of this country's First Amendment? Wouldn't the First Amendment indicate "most important" or "most basic right of the American people"? There is absolutely no right to violate another right.

Safety concerns

Hunting concerns

FOR those who want to allow hunting in city limits: Will you get a good night's sleep after a person or pet is killed? How do the police feel about hunting in city limits? Maybe the death will be an accident or maybe it will be a true killing.

Well-being index

WE'RE No. 8. Only seven states rank lower than Missouri in Gallup's well-being index. What is the solution? I know. I know. Cut taxes.

Liberal hypocrisy

ONCE again, liberals attack Rush Limbaugh in a thinly veiled and politically motivated attack. The outrage over his comments regarding a female law student and the call for a boycott of his sponsors in order to pressure him off the airwaves are pathetic, considering the worse comments that routinely come from the lips of Howard Stern, rappers and the like. All you liberals would have much more credibility if you actually launched a campaign against what you say you don't like instead of against a man who has such a huge platform in which to point out your hypocrisy.

Roundabout concern

REGARDING the roundabout at Perryville, it was not "wonderful" at first. It was too small for tractor-trailer rigs and had to be enlarged at a cost of $30,000. Also, there have been a couple of reports of confused drivers turning into oncoming traffic. The layout of the roundabout at Lexington Avenue and Route W by the Missouri Department of Transportation looks smaller. Looks like deja vu all over again.
