ADVANCE, Mo. -- Samuel G. Fisher, 80, of Advance passed away Monday, March 19, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born Oct. 12, 1931, in Lodge, Va., son of Samuel and Mabel Sebra Fisher Sr. Sam opened Sam's Restaurant in Advance in 1980. He and his family operated the restaurant more than 30 years. He was a member of Advance United Methodist Church. He had been an Advance city alderman eight years and was active in the Republican Party. He was an avid golfer...

ADVANCE, Mo. -- Samuel G. Fisher, 80, of Advance passed away Monday, March 19, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 12, 1931, in Lodge, Va., son of Samuel and Mabel Sebra Fisher Sr.

Sam opened Sam's Restaurant in Advance in 1980. He and his family operated the restaurant more than 30 years. He was a member of Advance United Methodist Church. He had been an Advance city alderman eight years and was active in the Republican Party. He was an avid golfer.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Sam and Joyce Rhodes were married July 4, 1953, in Washington, D.C. She preceded him in death Oct. 3, 2000.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis W. Fisher of Littleton, Colo., Russell G. Fisher of Double Oak, Texas; two daughters, Denise O'Hare of Advance, Sandy Wright of Machinistville, Texas; two sisters, Violet Sweigart of Chester, Pa., Deloris Smith of Haynesville, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Willer officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Advance, with full military rites.
