Two area men were badly hurt in motorcycle crashes Thursday, with one crash causing a Zalma, Mo., man's death. Steve A. Walker, 55, of Zalma was killed when an SUV driven by 31-year-old Violet L. Little, also of Zalma, drove into the path of his motorcycle while making a left turn, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol's online crash reports. The crash happened on Highway 51 at Zalma at about 6:15 p.m. Walker was pronounced dead at the scene by Bollinger County Coroner Charlie Hutchings. In a separate accident in Scott County, 34-year-old Leon Phillips of Oran, Mo., received serious injuries when his motorcycle lost control, crossed the centerline and struck another vehicle driven by 51-year-old Jacqueline L. Retherford of Advance, Mo., the patrol reported. The accident happened at about 5 p.m. on Route W, five miles west of Oran. Phillips was taken from the scene by helicopter to Saint Francis Medical Center. Retherford had minor injuries.
