The Southeast Missouri State University Choir has made it big in the Big Apple; the choir is scheduled to perform May 25 at Carnegie Hall in New York City; it has been invited to perform Brahm's "Requiem" along with several other groups from the Midwest in a mass choral concert.

The third annual Kow Pasture Klassic, which some have called "an insult to the game of golf," is held at New Hamburg, Mo.; money raised from the event benefits the Kenny Rogers Cerebral Palsy Center in Sikeston, Mo.

50 years ago: March 28, 1962

The current Master Detective magazine features a six-page illustrated story about Cape Girardeau police chief Percy R. Little; the story describes Little's long history in law enforcement.

After not having a professional golfer on hand for years, the Cape Girardeau Country Club now boasts two pros; they are a husband-and-wife team, Fred and Murle Lindstrom.

75 years ago: March 28, 1937

Easter Sunday. The day dawns clear and cold for the annual community sunrise service, this year held at the entrance to Academic Hall on the Teachers College campus; about 400 worshippers attend; a second sunrise service is held at Memorial Park.

A fire that starts when the occupants are away destroys the dwelling of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Seyer, near the North Sprigg Street Road at the north city limits; the frame house, which consisted of three rooms and an attic, is owned by Theodore Ochs.

100 years ago: March 28, 1912

Fuller-Coults Co. of St. Louis will furnish the plans and estimates for the municipal water and light plants that will be considered by the voters at a special election; the city council picked Fuller-Coults from among nine bidders for the contract.

Bungalows are becoming popular here; J.W. Gore, chief engineer at the Roberts, Johnson & Rand shoe factory, has just contracted with Pape Brothers to build an eight-room bungalow on South Lorimier Street.
