McCLURE, Ill. -- One person was taken by air to a St. Louis hospital following a crash on Illinois Highway 3 that tied up traffic Friday afternoon.

According to the Illinois State Police, the crash happened at about 3:15 p.m. and involved a tractor-trailer and a flagger. The crash took place on Highway 3, one mile south of Highway 146 in Alexander County. The victim was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center and later flown to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis in critical condition.

The state police were not releasing the names of those involved. The crash was under investigation Friday night.
