The Nancy Hunter Chapter of NSDAR met March 28 at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. Shelia Holloway, regent, introduced guest speaker Chief Paul White Eagle of the first Cape Girardeau Native Americans.
Following the recitals of the rituals Catherine Allison, secretary, read the minutes and LaFern Stiver, treasurer, gave the treasury report. Both were accepted
Dorothy Points made motion that we nominate member Julia Understall as The Constitution Teacher of the year, and the group passed the motion.
Charlotte Slinkard gave a report that there are now 46 members and one prospective member.
Motion was made to give the Good Citizenship participants $50 each at the awards ceremony each year. Those receiving the awards in February were Dustin Peetz of Cape Girardeau Central High School and Dustin Oehl of Oak Ridge High School.
Holloway announced there will be an executive meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Cape Girardeau Public Library to plan next year activities and nominate officers.
Plans are being made to rededicate the DAR plaque which hung in the old post office on Broadway since 1924 until torn down to make way for the Federal Building in its place. The plaque will now be installed in the Rush H. Limbaugh United States Courthouse in the atrium area on Independence Street at 1:30 p.m. April 25. The Revolutionary War soldiers named on the plaque, ones known of at that time, are Christopher Hayes, Robert Brevard, Ithamar Hubble, Stephen Ranney, Thomas Hill, Alexander McLain, Uriah Brock and John Walker.
The history of each name is going to be shared and all descendants of these heroes are invited to attend the ceremonies. There will be a reception following the ceremony and a guide will be available to give tours of the courthouse. City dignitaries are to be invited.
Nancy Hunter Chapter will be attending the Immigration and Nationalization Ceremonies at 10 a.m. May 1 at the Rush H. Limbaugh Courthouse to present each new citizen with a lapel pin.
The end of year luncheon will be held at noon May 25 at Cape Girardeau Country Club where chapter awards will be given out.
