The identity of the man who was hit Tuesday morning by a tractor trailer on Interstate 55 hasn't yet been released by authorities, and may not be.
Cape Girardeau Police Department spokesman Jason Selzer said police typically don't release names of those involved in attempted suicides. Selzer said much of the evidence collected at the scene indicates the incident was an attempted suicide.
Part of Interstate 55 was shut down Tuesday morning in Cape Girardeau after a man shot himself in the face, then stepped out into traffic, where he was hit by a tractor trailer.
The man was in serious condition and was taken to a St. Louis hospital.
Selzer said the last report he'd heard the victim was still in critical condition in St. Louis.
