About 120 dozen colored eggs were collected in short order by eager children yesterday during the Cape Girardeau Jaycees' annual Easter egg hunt at Arena Park.

50 years ago: April 19, 1962

Bishop Eugene M. Frank of the Missouri Area led the Grace Methodist congregation in consecration of its new sanctuary building in the evening; the sanctuary, with a seating capacity of more than 600, was recently completed, bringing the total cost of the entire unit to $425,000.

Capt. Marshall F. Morton has encountered many strange happenings during his many years as a Cape Girardeau policeman, so he wasn't terribly surprised last night when he spotted an old-fashioned, heavy metal bathtub sitting in the westbound lane in the 500 block of Broadway; police believe vandals dragged the tub from a nearby doctor's office.

75 years ago: April 19, 1937

Bright and early this morning, a crew of men begins clearing trees and brush from a sector of the grove where Cape Girardeau's new arena will be; in charge of the 19 workers is foreman Claude Patterson; on hand when the WPA-city park project is started are J. Carl Jourdan, one of the architects for the job; city commissioners L.H. Butler and H.L. Coffman, and a few others.

Cape Girardeau Jaycees president Eugene E. Miller was elected president of the Missouri State Jaycees during the group's annual meeting here this weekend.

100 years ago: April 19, 1912

Dr. G.B. Schulz of Cape Girardeau, a member of the state board of health, has been instructed by Gov. H.S. Hadley to visit the flood districts south of here with a view of learning conditions as to probable epidemics resulting from the flood.

After several weeks of idleness, the big clock in the tower of the Frisco passenger station is running again; yesterday, two Frisco employees climbed the tower to investigate and found a cable bearing the weight had broken; they repaired the cable, and the machinery has been running smoothly ever since.
