Good young people

We hear so many stories about the bad young people in our midst and people are always knocking younger people, but there are some that need to be recognized. This afternoon while going to a fast-food restaurant, three young men walked in the door at the same time I did. Two of them opened the door and went on in. The third one looked at my veteran's cap, held the door open for me and when I thanked him he smiled and said, "It's the least I can do for a veteran. My father is a veteran, too." There are some good, thoughtful young people out there, and I have been blessed meeting this young man.

Electric fences

Regarding the deer that we are luring into our yards and feeding them, if you put up an electric fence around your yard or maybe just your garden area or flowers, I guarantee they won't come more than once. My husband uses them around his garden.

Deer options

Speaking of options, I think we are running out of them where deer are concerned. We can't shoot them and we are not supposed to feed them. That's pretty humane I think. Why don't we just kill them off like we did the Indians?

Feeding deer

Why would the city of Cape Girardeau think of making more laws, like they are talking about now in the city council about citations for feeding deer when they don't enforce laws that they have on their books now? I don't think there is anyone who says they do a good job enforcing traffic laws.

Social promotions

I challenge Cape's school board to stop the social promotions. The third grade is the critical level. If third-graders cannot read at a third-grade level, then they must be held back. I hope the Southeast Missourian will take this suggestion seriously and let the public know what percentage of third-grade public school students are held back.

Cardinals radio

Why is the radio reception in Cape Girardeau for the St. Louis Cardinal baseball game so poor? I can get it on my car radio, but not on a portable radio so I can sit outside or fish and listen to the baseball game. I am talking about just sitting outside in Cape Girardeau and it still doesn't come in. What's the problem? We need Cardinal baseball always.

Selling food stamps

ONE thing about the people on welfare and the people on SSI or disability. You can always tell when it is the second week of the month, they always try and sell you food stamps.
