A city sewer line is being reset deeper to allow the complete drainage of Capaha Park lagoon, which is undergoing an extensive overhaul; a valve will be installed in the sewer line so that in the future it will be a simple matter to drain the lake.

The city of Jackson files a motion in Common Pleas Court in Cape Girardeau for a new trial in the mandamus suit brought against the city council and building inspector by William and Kathryn Daniels; the legal battle involves the issuance of a building permit for an addition to the Jackson Frozen Food Locker to be used as a slaughterhouse.

75 years ago: April 24, 1937

Striking a small area on North Main Street early in the morning, a severe windstorm leaves damage of about $40,000 in its wake; hardest hit is the Riverside Ice & Fuel Co., a half block south of the shoe factory; half of the ice plant is demolished, the entire roof being swept off the long coal house, and a barn is half leveled.

Frank Carter has leased a basement room in the First National Bank building and will move the St. Charles Barber Shop there from across the street.

100 years ago: April 24, 1912

The convention of the Knights and Ladies of Security is held in the new hall of the local lodge in the Vandeven building on West Broadway; presiding officer is Thomas J. Juden of Cape Girardeau.

Martin Meisner of Altenberg, Mo., is in Cape Girardeau exhibiting the lawn swing he manufactures in his home town and sells all over the country.
