SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Missouri Department of Transportation's roadside mowing operations are underway. The first mowing cycle began on major routes earlier this month and will be completed before Memorial Day. Additional mowing cycles will be completed on four-lane highways and interstates in mid-July and mid-September. Secondary and minor routes will receive three mowing cycles as well, the first beginning in late May, following Memorial Day. The second and third mowing cycles will begin in late July and early October, respectively. As mowing operations are underway, motorists are asked to use caution when approaching mowing operations. Additionally, MoDOT offers area farmers the opportunity to mow areas of MoDOT's right of way for hay for livestock purposes. To participate, farmers must first call MoDOT to inquire about available areas for mowing and obtain a permit. For more information, call MoDOT's Customer Service Center at 888-275-6636.
