As our country approaches a new election this year, there are two issues that we have to come to grips with. No. 1, we have to quit spending more money then our government has. We have to reduce our debt. No. 2, and more importantly, we have to come back to God. This country was founded by Christians who believed in God and believed that everybody should also believe in God, otherwise our democracy doesn't work. So it is time to come back to God and declare once again that this is a Christian nation.

Limbaugh column

I think it is disgustingly shameful that David Limbaugh dared to write that war hero and 2008 presidential candidate John McCain lacked the courage to go after then-candidate Barack Obama. Limbaugh is obviously referring to McCain's honorable correction of a voter who referred to Obama as a Kenyan-born Islamist. Limbaugh apparently thinks Mitt Romney is courageous for not correcting these birthers. To me, it is Romney who exhibits a seemingly immeasurable amount of scurrilous spinelessness, and for Limbaugh to defend Romney's seamy tactics is scandalous.

Safety cable

The so-called safety cable put up along the southbound side of 55 has made it more dangerous than safe. It should never have been put that close to the highway. It should have been put at least far enough away that a car could get off the interstate. I guess it will have to take a couple people getting killed for them to see it is too dangerous. There was no reason for it to be put that close. They never have been put up like that around St. Louis. Also there should be places left for the emergency vehicles to go from one side to the other, instead of having to drive five miles to get to the other side.

Schizophrenia

I don't believe the report that Missouri ranks among the worst states for the overall care and treatment of the mentally ill, but I do believe it.

Cable, DSL

Four years ago we where promised broadband for our county; millions of our taxpayer dollars were given to companies to provide this service. The company that received this money promised to render this service with in six months to a year. It's been four and all we have is two free hot spots for the rich and elite of Cape Girardeau County, namely the judges and lawyers, in an area inundated with cable and DSL. When will we who don't have access to either of these services be able to get broadband for out children's education and ourselves? I know the answer will be six months to a year, the same that was said four years ago.
