MOUNDS, Ill. -- Paul Junior Gibbs, 74, of Mounds, formerly of Jonesboro, Ill., passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. MOUNDS, Ill. -- Paul Junior Gibbs, 74, of Mounds, formerly of Jonesboro, Ill., passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 1, 1938, in Union County, Ill., son of Elmer and Lena Bruner Gibbs.

Paul served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1963.

He retired as a mental health technician from Choate Mental Health and Development Center in Anna, Ill. He was very active in the Smiles I Center in Mounds, serving on the board as a director of Southern Pride.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; and first wife, Patsy Gibbs in 2002.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy McClellan Gibbs of Mounds; two sons, P.J. (Cori) Gibbs of Jonesboro, Dennis Smith of Carbondale, Ill.; two daughters, Tina (Bill) Johnson of Anna, Lena (Justin) Ried of St. Louis; a stepson, Danny Pirtle of Champaign, Ill.; a brother, Eugene Gibbs of Anna; four sisters, Mary Richardson and Mildred Matthews of Anna, Loraine Bunebette of Macon, Ga., Delores Barton of St. Charles, Mo.; five grandchildren, Autumn and Mia Gibbs, Anthony Mull, Jeffrey Wilkerson and Jullian Gibbs; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge, Ill.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Buddy Walls officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by members of Illinois National Guard Burial Team and local veterans. Interment will be in Casper Cemetery near Anna.
