I read the article on Central High School's answers about the graduation rate. Does anyone know why it was so low last year? Seems like the school district told us that they were doing really well with the freshman class. That is good to know, but what about the sophomore, junior and senior classes? Do they count for anything?...

Graduate rate

I read the article on Central High School's answers about the graduation rate. Does anyone know why it was so low last year? Seems like the school district told us that they were doing really well with the freshman class. That is good to know, but what about the sophomore, junior and senior classes? Do they count for anything?

Looking good

My first drive on the upgraded section of Broadway with small trees in place was a joy. It is more handsome than I ever thought it could be. Congratulations to those responsible.

Broadway project

Will the new sidewalks on Broadway look like the ones on Mount Auburn, full of weeds and dead grass? If so, why waste the money, time and loss of income for the businesses on Broadway?

Ordinance cost

At the city council meeting on July 16 the city council passed the ordinance 4 to 3 to allow deer hunting in Cape from Sept. 15 through Jan. 15. Councilwoman Loretta Schneider, who was against this ordinance, asked the mayor and fellow council people that evening, "Who is going to enforce this?" No one responded to her question, so this makes you wonder what this is going to cost the people of Cape Girardeau.

Gun control

Mitt Romney signed an assault weapons ban when governor of Massachusetts and has done more for gun control than President Obama, who has actually expanded gun rights. It has been said that only President Nixon could have gone to China. Perhaps only a President Romney can bring about stricter gun control legislation.

Where's the money?

Would someone tell me where our country got $150 million to send to other countries to fight AIDS? Oh, I remember, take it out of our Social Security account and cut benefits to poor people here.

Tax increase

The two commissioners and Jackson school superintendent should be ashamed of themselves for adding a tax increase on the people in this time of economic hardship.

Health insurance

I agree we should not force people to buy health care insurance. However, those who choose not to shouldn't be allowed to declare bankruptcy after getting sick or involved in an accident. Taxpayers shouldn't be required to pay your bill.

Robocalls

I'm sick and tired of receiving political robocalls that tie my private phone line and do not allow me to hang up and use my phone until they are through with their message. If you have an emergency, you're just out of luck until they disconnect. This deceptive practice should be outlawed. Until then I will not vote for anyone who uses this method.
