Kansas and Missouri ranked among the nation's elite men's college basketball teams last year.

Southeast Missouri State will get a crack at both of those squads this season. The Jayhawks and Tigers are part of the Redhawks' 2012-13 schedule released Tuesday.

The Redhawks open the season Nov. 9 at national runner-up Kansas and visit Missouri Dec. 4. The Tigers won the Big 12 Conference tournament during their final season in the league last year.

"Those will be two very challenging games for us, but we look forward to competing against two of the best teams in the country," fourth-year Southeast coach Dickey Nutt said.

Southeast also played at Missouri last year, suffering an 83-68 loss in the season opener.

The Redhawks' 31-game regular-season schedule features 14 home contests. Other nonconference home dates are against Lyon College, McNeese State, Hannibal-LaGrange, Central Arkansas, New Orleans and the annual BracketBusters series.

Southeast's game at Kansas is the first of four contests as part of the CBE Classic. The Redhawks other three tournament games will be in Chattanooga, Tenn., against Chattanooga, Louisiana Tech and Troy on consecutive days.

"We're excited to be a part of that tournament," Nutt said.

Southeast will reportedly receive a total of about $240,000 for its games at Kansas and Missouri and for participating in the CBE Classic. The money goes toward the university's general athletic department revenue.

The Redhawks have an unusual home-and-home series with New Orleans as Southeast also visits that squad.

Other nonleague road opponents are Illinois-Chicago, Southeastern Louisiana and Missouri-Kansas City.

"Our schedule has a good balance of home and away games," Nutt said. "Our nonconference schedule will ultimately prepare us for conference play."

After opening the season at Kansas, the Redhawks tip off their home schedule Nov. 12 against Lyon College.

Southeast has two home exhibition games, Oct. 30 against Ouachita Baptist and Nov. 5 against Truman State.

The Redhawks will have a 16-game Ohio Valley Conference schedule for the second straight year as this season marks the first year for divisional play.

Southeast will face fellow OVC West Division members Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois, Murray State, SIU Edwardsville and Tennessee-Martin twice each, both home and on the road.

The Redhawks play the six OVC East Division teams just once apiece. Southeast hosts Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State and Tennessee Tech while visiting first-year conference member Belmont, Jacksonville State and Tennessee State.

Southeast opens its OVC schedule at home against Tennessee-Martin on Dec. 29. The Redhawks play their first three conference games at the Show Me Center but finish their league schedule with four straight road contests.
