Not the movie

What a horrible thing it is for people to pass blame on a movie that is based on a superhero that was created more than 70 years ago, or any movie or video game! Give me a break! Should we blame all the other mass murders since 1939 on Batman as well? No, I don't believe so. Do you think that just maybe he picked that theater because he knew there would be an enormous amount of people in one place at one time? Or do you still believe he murdered all those innocent people because he was brainwashed by a "crazy" movie? The problem is that parents are not teaching their children discipline, love, respect or morals!

Leaving trash

We who live in the county north of town would like to thank the two young men who dumped their pickup load of mattresses into the woods off County Road 640. How thoughtful of you to share your trash with us.

Jackson hunting

My wife and I have a question. We are lovers of all kinds of animal. Isn't it against the law to kill squirrel and rabbits inside the city limits of Jackson? Also, what about steel traps to catch foxes, possums, raccoons, groundhogs or basically any animal he can catch and eat? This man fires guns to catch things to eat for his supper. He says no one will stop him either. This is going on in the 900 block of Greensferry Road.

Commendable

My hats off to those brave, hard working farmers who managed to build their farms and conduct business without the help of government. They never needed the use of taxpayer supported roads, government subsidies or the USDA. They never required the police, fire departments or the post office. I can't imagine how they did it, but it is certainly commendable.

Reagan, Cash, Hope

Thirty years ago, Ronald Reagan was the president. Johnny Cash was still singing his country songs and Bob Hope was entertaining the troops with his comedy. Today, Barack Obama is the president and we have no cash and no hope.

Transit parking

This is a concern of mine. Arena Park in Cape Girardeau has turned into a business parking area for the Cape Transit Authority. This looks trashy and slummy, like a big city would have. They used to hang out over there at Plaza Galleria and I guess they got run off from hanging around there. If this is a business, can't they park at that location? Cape Girardeau citizens like to use the park as a park, not for parking lot for taxi cabdrivers. You drive through there and they're just hanging around, drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes while waiting for fares. I think they should be removed from our park and they need a designated company location if they need to park.

Fishing problem

My grandson was born in Missouri but now lives in another state. He came for a visit and to go fishing. When he went to get a license, if he was in the military, he wouldn't have to have any but would have to go to the conservation center, which he did. He took his military papers but he was told he had to be a resident of Missouri to fish free. While on two tours in Iraq, was he not fighting for all 50 states? I was so embarrassed for him.
