An early morning fire at a vacant house in Cape Girardeau is being investigated as suspicious, fire officials said Thursday.

An early morning fire at a vacant house in Cape Girardeau is being investigated as suspicious, fire officials said Thursday.

Fire crews responded about 3:30 a.m. to a report of a house fire at 1405 William St., where they found the first floor ablaze. The flames were quickly extinguished but the cause of the fire is considered suspicious and under investigation, according to a news release from the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

No one was living at the home, the news release said, and the extent of the damage was considered moderate.
