NEW MADRID, Mo. -- Noranda Aluminum Inc. and the United Steelworkers of America, the union that represents about 780 employees at the Southeast Missouri aluminum plant, have agreed to a one-week extension of the current collective bargaining agreement. The union and plant have been in contract talks, and the agreement was originally set to expire Friday. But the agreement was extended until Sept. 7, according to a news release from Noranda. The extension was needed to allow local union leadership and Noranda to reach terms on a new deal, according to the news release.
