The St. Pius Lady Lancers were crowned champions of the Notre Dame VolleyballFest tournament on Saturday, defeating two-time defending champion Perryville 24-26, 25-21, 25-14 in a three-set thriller. The Lancers are the defending Class 2 state champions.

Natalie Gremaud led Perryville with 14 kills in the championship match while Ashley Bachmann dished out eight assists. Alex Spears added seven kills for the Pirates.

Perryville reached the championship match after a close three-set win over Dexter 22-25, 25-15, 25-22 in the semifinal round. Alex Spears nailed nine kills and Lauren Buxton had four blocks while Libbi Schnurbusch had 18 digs for the Pirates (4-1-1).

"I was pleased with the effort of our team," Perryville coach Dave Mirly said. "I'm very excited about the future of our team."

The Pirates travel to Farmington on Tuesday.

Host Notre Dame defeated Ste. Genevieve 25-10, 25-22 to clinch the silver bracket title. The Bulldogs (4-1-1) were led by Miranda Fowler who slammed down 14 kills. Kelsey Muster had eight kills and Myriah Bernard added another five kills for Notre Dame. Taylor Ward dished out 20 assists while Sara Lawrence and Taylor Rinda had seven digs apiece for the Bulldogs

Notre Dame reached the silver bracket final after a 25-10, 25-5 win over Central.

Notre Dame coach Tara Stroup described the tournament as very close and competitive.

"This was a really good, really strong tournament," she said. "It was a lot of fun. Ste. Genevieve is a good team, and I'm glad that we were able to end on such a good note."

The Bulldogs host Bernie Tuesday.

Jackson and Central will face off in the Notre Dame SoccerFest championship, which has been rescheduled for Saturday after rain postponed some matches.

Jackson defeated Poplar Bluff 2-1 in overtime on Friday while the Tigers defeated Notre Dame 2-1 on penalty kicks in a semifinal that was played Saturday.

Sikeston topped Carbondale 2-0 in a consolation semifinal on Friday, while Marion defeated Perryville 3-2 on penalty kicks in the other consolation semifinal.

Sikeston will face Marion in the consolation final. Carbondale and Perryville will play for seventh place.
