PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. -- The U.S. Geological Survey reported a magnitude-2.6 earthquake Monday morning near Portageville, the Daily Statesman reported. The quake occurred at 7:12 a.m. and was centered six miles east/northeast of Portageville. No damage was reported, but some residents reported having felt the movement. According to the USGS, the New Madrid Seismic Zone is the most seismically active in North America east of the Rocky Mountains.
