KENNETT, Mo. -- The Kennett Fire Department responded to a fire Thursday that they called "suspicious."

At about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, the department was dispatched to 1713 Willoughby St. regarding a fire in a vacant house. The fire started in the rear of the structure, according to the department.

Capt. Paul Spain said the cause of the fire is unknown, but described the blaze as "suspicious."

Firefighters remained at the property for about two hours until the flames were extinguished. The house suffered significant damage, department officials said.

There were no reported injuries.
